We are the
Foundation for Pathobiochemistry and Molecular Diagnostics (SPMD)
together with the
Reference Institute for Bioanalytics (RfB)
The SPMD is a foundation under civil law with the aim of promoting medical science and research, as well as public health care. It operates the RfB as part of quality assurance in medical laboratories.
Here in the RfB’s Molecular Genetics Laboratory, we carry out a wide range of molecular analyses to investigate genetic disorders and somatic tumour mutations, in line with the EQA-Schemes specified in Section B5 of the German Medical Association’s guidelines. Among other things, we analyse DNA from leukocytes as well as nucleic acids in blood and other fluids using state-of-the-art technologies.
What you bring to the role
- A completed BTA/biology laboratory technician qualification with several years’ practical experience in molecular biology, or a completed Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or a comparable subject (higher-level qualifications cannot be taken into account during the application process)
- Proficiency in cell biology and standard molecular biology methods and analyses (including cell culture techniques, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, isolation and quantification of nucleic acids, and sequencing)
- Practical laboratory experience with genetic engineering work (S1 level), ideally with some initial experience in the field of CRISPR/Cas or NGS
- Practical experience in quality management, ideally in the context of DIN EN ISO 17025
- Experience in working with electronic databases and SOPs
- A structured and meticulous approach to work
- Ability to find solutions independently to complex questions and problems
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Very good command of German
Your responsibilities
- Preparation of test specimens (interlaboratory test samples), including the isolation of DNA/RNA from blood samples
- Quality control of interlaboratory test samples, including carrying out and evaluating molecular biological analyses (PCR, Sanger sequencing, gel electrophoresis)
- Evaluation and documentation of all processes and results relating to sample production and analysis
- Carrying out cell culture work independently using human cell lines
- Molecular genetic work (PCR, (RT-)qPCR, genotyping)
- Establishment of new molecular biology methods or instrumentation systems
- Maintaining and helping to shape a quality management system in accordance with the requirements of the accreditation standard for testing laboratories, DIN EN ISO 17025, including the preparation and review of quality control documentation
- Organisation and maintenance of general laboratory operations
- Data management in the ERP/CRM system
