Dear participants,

We are pleased to inform you that the RfB is expanding its external quality assurance services in laboratory medicine. In February 2026, we will offer a pilot EQA scheme for the detection of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in serum.

Measuring GFAP and UCH-L1 in serum helps to quickly rule out relevant brain injuries following mild traumatic brain trauma and better assess the need for CT imaging. Both markers rise rapidly after brain injury and enable targeted risk assessment for serious consequences.

Analytes of the pilot EQA scheme:

  • Set 1: GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein)
  • Set 2: UCH-L1 (ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase L1)

Participation in this pilot EQA scheme is free of charge for registered participants. Registration is possible via your participant account at www.rfb.bio . The number of participants is limited to 12, with places allocated in the order in which registrations are received. After the registration deadline, you will be notified whether you can participate in the pilot EQA scheme.

Registration deadline: 12 January 2026
Study period: 16 February 2026 – 28 February 2026
