An EQA-Scheme ( proficiency test or external quality assessment, EQA) is the central component of external quality assurance in the laboratory.
EQA-Scheme procedure:
- The RfB sends identical test samples to registered laboratories.
- Each laboratory analyses the sample using its routine procedures.
- The results are transmitted to the RfB.
- RfB statistically compares all submitted results with a reference or target value.
- Participating laboratories receive an assessment and a certificate that can be presented to authorities or auditors.
Why EQA-Schemes are important:
- They ensure the accuracy and comparability of measured values.
- They help to recognise systematic errors at an early stage.
- They are mandatory for numerous analysts according to RiLi-BÄK.
- They promote international standardisation and harmonisation.
