An EQA-Scheme ( proficiency test or external quality assessment, EQA) is the central component of external quality assurance in the laboratory.

EQA-Scheme procedure:

1. The RfB sends identical test samples to registered laboratories.
2. Each laboratory analyses the sample using its routine procedures.
3. The results are transmitted to the RfB.
4. RfB statistically compares all submitted results with a reference or target value.
5. Participating laboratories receive an assessment and a certificate that can be presented to authorities or auditors.

Why EQA-Schemes are important:

• They ensure the accuracy and comparability of measured values.
• They help to recognise systematic errors at an early stage.
• They are mandatory for numerous analysts according to RiLi-BÄK.
• They promote international standardisation and harmonisation.
