Internal quality control (IQC) – also known as internal quality assurance (QC-I) – is a procedure by which a laboratory continuously checks the reliability of its measurements.
It is part of the RiLi-BÄK and a prerequisite for stable measurement quality in routine operation.
Objective of the IQK
- Monitoring of daily measurement accuracy and precision
- Recognising short-term deviations and device problems
- Ensuring consistent results over time
Typical procedure
- Analysis of control material with known target values
- Checking the results against defined tolerances
- Documentation and assessment (e.g. using Levey-Jennings or Westgard rules)
- Corrective measures if limits are exceeded
