What is internal quality control (IQC)?

Internal quality control (IQC) – also known as internal quality assurance (QC-I) – is a procedure by which a laboratory continuously checks the reliability of its measurements.

It is part of the RiLi-BÄK and a prerequisite for stable measurement quality in routine operation.

Objective of the IQK

  • Monitoring of daily measurement accuracy and precision
  • Recognising short-term deviations and device problems
  • Ensuring consistent results over time

Typical procedure

  1. Analysis of control material with known target values
  2. Checking the results against defined tolerances
  3. Documentation and assessment (e.g. using Levey-Jennings or Westgard rules)
  4. Corrective measures if limits are exceeded
